Reps. Synenberg, Upchurch Condemn Recent Action by President Donald J. Trump

COLUMBUS — State Reps. Eric Synenberg (D-Beachwood) and Terrence Upchurch (D-Cleveland) today called on their colleagues in the Ohio General Assembly to join them in condemning a recent action by President Donald J. Trump, who posted a demeaning video depicting former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys. The lawmakers are urging members to sign on to a resolution formally condemning the action.
“This imagery is deeply offensive, racist and incompatible with the values of respect, equality, and dignity that we, as public officials, are sworn to uphold,” said Rep. Synenberg. “Regardless of party affiliation, this conduct warrants a clear and unified condemnation from the Ohio General Assembly.”
“This video is demeaning, offensive, and completely unacceptable,” said Rep. Upchurch. “Actions like this are vile, erode trust in our leaders, and contradict the respect that our communities and our country deserve. As elected officials, we must stand together to reject this behavior and uphold the principles of fairness, integrity, and justice for everyone.”
The final deadline to cosponsor this resolution will be Monday, Feb 9th, and will be officially filed in the House Clerk’s office next week.
