COLUMBUS — State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced $89,021.74 in human trafficking grants from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Criminal Justice Services. A total of $2M was granted throughout the state, awarding 33 nonprofits in 16 different counties. These nonprofits serve the needs of human trafficking survivors. Funded services include victim advocacy, mental health services, education and employment support, and shelter/housing, and more. COMPASS Family and Community Services was one of the 33 recipients in this round of funding. 

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) Thursday introduced a new piece of legislation that draws clear distinctions between full time employees and independent contractors. This legislation aims to address improper categorization of employees, which can be done by employers to not give employees the benefits and protections that they deserve. This has become prevalent in the last few years with the rise of ride sharing, food delivery, and package delivery services. 

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) and Michele Grim (D-Toledo) today introduced two new bills that focus on pet stores and pet financing. Together, these bills are trying to end bad practices that are prevalent in pet stores across Ohio, specifically prohibiting loans to purchase and restoring local governmental authority to regulate the sale of dogs.

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced $674,978 in Career Pathway Support Grants for Youngstown State University (YSU). This is a part of the Department of Education and Workforce’s campaign to support career-connected learning opportunities and career planning support to more students across Ohio. These grants are used to support career technical education by creating the Career Pathway Support Networks. These regional networks will bring together schools, employers, and community leaders to align education with workforce needs and expand opportunities for students.

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) and Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today introduced a new piece of legislation to end Academic Distress Commissions (ADCs) for public schools in Ohio. During the Ohio House of Representatives’ marathon session on Wednesday, November 19th, Rep. McNally attempted to amend the disillusion of ADCs into House Bill (HB) 455, a bill to eliminate obsolete provision of education law. Republican lawmakers blocked the amendment, even though ADCs have been a proven failure. In the last General Assembly, the legislature decided that no other schools could fall into an ADC .

Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today condemned the passage of anti-voter Senate Bill (SB) 293 which places new burdens on voters by adding unnecessary hurdles to the voting process, shortening the time available for Ohioans to make their voices heard, and weakening essential accountability measures. 

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) Wednesday introduced legislation to protect unpaid interns. Ohio has long recognized the value of protecting employees from undue harassment and discrimination. However, these protections currently do not apply to unpaid interns. This bill seeks to apply the employment portions of the Ohio Civil Rights Law to unpaid interns.

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) Monday shared that The Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) approved a job creation tax credit for Vallourec Star, LP, an American-made seamless tub supplier. The company plans to expand and create 40 new jobs for the Mahoning Valley.

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today sent a letter to Governor Mike DeWine urging him to take action to help prevent the 1.4M Ohioans who could be left without the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments starting November 1st if the federal government shutdown continues past October 31st.
