Rep. Brewer Mourns Death of Angela Bates

COLUMBUS- State Rep. Brewer (D-Cleveland) today mourned the death of Angela Bates who recently lost her life along with her three children to gun violence.

“I had the opportunity to meet and speak with Ms. Bates when she gave testimony during National Gun Violence Survivors Week. Once again, I call upon my colleagues to advance House Bill 421 for a hearing so we may discuss and investigate issues around gun violence, such as suicide, mental illness, and trauma. The Ohio Legislature can help reduce, if not eliminate, senseless gun violence in the state. Through conversation and consideration, we can discuss solutions on how to build and sustain better Ohio communities,” said Rep. Brewer. “I also asked my fellow legislators numerous times to advance additional legislation such as House Bill 186, House Bill 420, and a host of others. According to the National Gun Violence Memorial, there have been 33 fatal gun violence deaths reported in Ohio in March and 147 deaths since the beginning of January 2024 in Ohio alone. Far too many deaths!  Again, when will legislators act responsibly?”
