Rep. Brewer Expresses Disappointment in Maple Heights' Failure to Pass Pride Month Resolution in Letter to City Council
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell Brewer (D-Cleveland) today sent a letter to Maple Heights' City Council voicing his disappointment in their failure to pass a resolution to acknowledge Pride Month. Rep. Brewer echoed the sentiment of fellow advocates, calling for leadership that uplifts all citizens.
“Passing a Pride Month resolution would not only reflect the values of compassion and justice that our district strives for, but also help foster a sense of belonging and safety for all who call Maple Heights home. At a time when LGBTQ+ individuals face higher rates of violence, suicide, and mental health issues simply because of who they are, we must act to help the LGBTQ+ community by providing support and creating an environment where everyone is accepted. A Pride Month resolution would signal to current and future residents that this city is one where all people are seen and respected,” said Rep. Brewer.
Rep. Brewer will continue to advocate for a district and state that welcomes all Ohioans.
