Darnell T. Brewer News

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell Brewer (D-Cleveland) today released the following statement in response to the Department of Justice's decision to terminate crucial grant funding for Cleveland-based organizations working to prevent violence and support victims of crime:

"I am deeply disappointed and concerned by the Department of Justice's decision to cut funding for life-saving programs that have been a cornerstone in our fight against violence, especially gun violence, in Cleveland and throughout Ohio House District 22. These programs do more than offer intervention and outreach, they provide hope, healing, and tangible support for victims and communities most affected by violent crime,” said Rep. Brewer. “As your state representative, I will not stand idly by. I remain committed to advocating for adequate and sustained funding for violence prevention and victim support programs. We must invest in public safety by empowering the individuals and organizations that do the hard work on the ground every day. I urge my colleagues at all levels of government to join me in demanding the reinstatement of these funds and to work collaboratively to ensure our communities remain protected and supported.”

Rep. Brewer encourages constituents to reach out to their state and federal legislators to voice their concerns.
