COLUMBUS — State Rep. Darnell Brewer (D-Cleveland) today thanked his colleagues for their unanimous passage of House Resolution (HR) 101. The bipartisan legislation, sponsored by Rep. Brewer and Rep. Adam Bird (R-New Richmond), supports the City of Cleveland’s bid to host the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games.

“The Special Olympics is not just an athletic event; it is a celebration of courage, determination, and inclusion. It serves as a symbol of what is possible when we break down barriers, support one another, and unite as one community. Bringing the Special Olympics to Cleveland in 2030 would not only showcase our city's world-class venues and passionate people, it would also allow us to demonstrate that Ohio is where all roads lead in terms of compassion, competition, and community. It will show Ohio is truly the ‘Heart of it All’,” said Rep. Brewer.

The games will bring 5,500 athletes and coaches from around the United States, and more than 125,000 attendees to our region. Cleveland is one of two finalist cities that the Special Olympics Bid Evaluation Committee is considering. Special Olympics USA Games are hosted every four years in major cities across the United States.

This celebration of athleticism would bring an estimated $70M to the local economy and would be the largest inclusive sports event in Cleveland’s history.
