COLUMBUS— House Bill 276, which designates memorial highways and bridges across the state, was signed into Ohio law yesterday by Governor Mike DeWine, announced State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville).

The bill designates “SGT David S. Harris Memorial Highway” on a portion of State Route 4 in Marion County that runs near Pleasant High School, where SGT Harris attended and graduated from in 1968.

“It has been a huge privilege to work on this legislation with Mrs. Barbara Brown and other classmates of SGT Harris from Pleasant High School,” said Representative Richardson. “I believe we must always honor and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and I’m looking forward to the memorial sign unveiling.”

SGT Harris was a Marion resident who was killed in action in Vietnam while providing lifesaving aid to his fellow wounded soldiers while under hostile fire. He received the Silver Star, the Army’s third highest medal for Valor, because of his heroic act. He was also posthumously inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor.
