COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) today presented House Resolution 54, legislation that commemorates April 2021 as the Month of the Military Child in Ohio.

“I am grateful to our military families who make many sacrifices so that we can live in freedom,” said Richardson. “The resolution I sponsored recognizes and renews our support for the military child!”

On April 25, 1968, U.S. Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger designated April as the Month of the Military Child in efforts to increase public knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding children who have a parent in the military.

House Resolution 54 ensures that enormous personal costs so frequently exacted in conjunction with the fulfillment of military obligations do not go unnoticed. This legislation honors families, especially their children, who may move many times throughout their lives, bear the burden of a parent being in harm’s way, and endure long separations from their parent.

“All Ohioans share the responsibility of supporting our youth, and during the month of April, we renew our commitment to children with a parent in the military, offering care and concern as well as understanding and empathy,” added Richardson. “We urge all citizens to mark this observance by advocating for those who are serving our country and their families.”

Richardson presented the resolution to Pete LuPiba, Ohio’s Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commissioner.
