A Letter to the Chair of the Power Sitting Board

On September 25th, I participated in a large gathering of my constituents representing 3 townships in Union County. Approximately 300 Leesburg, Claiborne and Taylor Township residents met to discuss their concerns about a new Samsung solar project, formerly PSB case 22-0469-EL-BGN, seeking location in Union County.

95% of this large crowd vehemently opposed the construction of the project. The meeting lasted over 2 hours with residents speaking in front of the group expressing sincere concerns, including:

• Long term negative health outcomes
• Destruction of drainage tiles and flooding
• Elimination of important fertile farmland
• Negative aesthetics
• Negative impact on the property values of surrounding properties
• Destruction of roads during construction
• Questionable generation of electricity
• Long-term reliability/certainty that the property would ever be restored to farmland again
• The extensive presence of almost 9000 acres of prime farmland already under construction or pending in Union County alone.
• Lack of clear setback requirements

These compelling concerns were voiced repeatedly, and my constituents are not happy with this project. In the months to come, you will most certainly be hearing from them, and I echo their heartfelt objections on their behalf.
