Rep. Brennan Stands with Educators in STRS Court Case

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan (D-Parma) today released the following statement after oral arguments before the 10th District Court of Appeals regarding changes to the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS) Board:
“As a retired public-school teacher, I stand firmly with Ohio’s active and retired educators who are fighting to protect their voice in their own retirement system.
These are not outside interests-this is their pension, their future, and their financial security. They deserve a strong and meaningful role in how their system is governed.
The changes proposed in House Bill 96 would shift power away from the very educators who fund and depend on STRS, and toward political appointees. That is the wrong direction.
I opposed these changes as a member of the Ohio Retirement Study Council, and I continue to believe that the people most impacted by decisions about STRS should have a seat at the table.
Ohio’s educators have earned that right, and I will continue to stand with them.”
