COLUMBUS – State Rep. Sean Brennan (D-Parma) recently hosted Latvian State Secretary Aivars Purinš and his delegation for a visit and tour of the Ohio Statehouse, highlighting Ohio’s growing role in transatlantic defense cooperation and its strong support for Ukraine.

Secretary Purinš’ visit to Ohio was organized in partnership with the German Marshall Fund, which is engaging with state and local elected officials, business leaders, and students to promote discussion around the importance of the NATO alliance and its role in ensuring security and prosperity in both the United States and Europe.

“Ohio has a proud history of supporting our allies and standing up for democracy,” said Rep. Brennan. “It was an honor to welcome Secretary Purinš to our Statehouse and discuss how Ohio can continue strengthening its partnerships with our European allies. From our robust defense manufacturing base to our unwavering support for Ukraine, Ohio is deeply connected to the work of preserving peace and freedom across the Atlantic.”

During his time in Ohio, Secretary Purinš met with leaders in government, education, and industry to discuss transatlantic defense cooperation, Latvia’s role within NATO, and the shared values that unite Americans and Europeans.

“The relationship between Ohio and our allies in Europe reflects the best of what transatlantic cooperation can achieve,” added Rep. Brennan. “By working together, we build not only a stronger alliance abroad but also a more secure and prosperous Ohio here at home.”
