State Reps. Phil Robinson (D-Solon) today released the following statement regarding the Ohio Supreme Court’s controversial split ruling that the state did not overstep its constitutional authority when it sought to block local hiring laws around the state: 

“Maintaining Ohio’s status as a Home Rule state and supporting local communities is one of my top concerns that propelled me to run for office. It’s troubling that some of the same people who advocate for state’s rights to federal power show inconsistency in supporting local community’s rights to state power,” said Rep. Robinson. “Cities, towns, and villages have the right to help aid efforts to hire locally and support the members of their communities.”

State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon) yesterday evening held a community town hall in Walton Hills as his last stop on the Ohio Promise Town Hall Tour, a statewide legislative town hall series hosted by House Democratic members. The purpose of the tour is to hear from constituents in their districts about their most pressing concerns, answer questions, and discuss the state budget, bipartisan priorities, and a number of recent Democratic-led, legislative wins for working people and families.

State Reps. Lisa Sobecki (D-Toledo) and Phil Robinson (D-Solon) filed a bill today to reinstate the Joint Education Oversight Committee (JEOC), a state legislative committee comprised of members from both parties in the State House and State Senate which provided non-partisan, fact based and in-depth analysis of K-12 education in Ohio at a great value to taxpayers.

State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon) today announced a town hall meeting on September 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Walton Hills Event Center to discuss the state budget, bipartisan priorities, other legislative updates and a number of recent Democratic-led wins for working people and families in House district 6.

State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon), with joint sponsor Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus), yesterday introduced House Bill (HB) 317, titled the “Protect Law Enforcement Act,” or PLEA—legislation that would require all firearms transactions to be processed by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), closing the current loopholes in law that allow many guns sales to occur without a background check.

State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon) today announced town hall meetings on August 13 at the Solon Community Center, August 14 at the Lyndhurst Community Center, August 20 at the Chagrin Falls Library Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Libraries, and August 22 at the Brecksville Community Center. Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) will also be appearing and speaking at the Solon Town Hall on August 13.

State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon) today issued a statement in response to the mass shooting in Dayton, OH, which occurred this past weekend:

“My sincere condolences to the victims’ family members of the mass shootings in both Dayton and El Paso. These tragedies way heavy on my heart. I also want to thank local police and law enforcement for their service in doing what they could to save as many lives as possible. No one can do the difficult job our police do when it comes to dealing with an active shooter situation,” said Rep. Robinson. “As we all grieve for the deceased and hope the wounded make quick physical and emotional recoveries, I hope in the coming weeks that the House, Senate and Gov. DeWine take legislative action in trying to prevent future tragedies. I know I will be doing my part.”
