State Rep. Heidi Workman Applauds Adoption of State Issue 3 Ballot Language

State Representative Heidi Workman (R-Rootstown) is calling on Ohioans to support a straightforward measure that strengthens election integrity: putting our existing photo ID requirement to vote into the Ohio Constitution so it can’t easily be weakened later. 

Senate Joint Resolution 10, which Rep. Workman championed through the House with a companion bill, has cleared its final procedural step. The Ohio Ballot Board recently approved the official ballot language (on a 4-1 vote), confirming the measure will appear as State Issue 3 on the November 3rd ballot for voters to decide. If approved by the voters, it would require every person voting in person to show a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID. 

Ohio already requires voter identification under a law passed in December 2022. The state also provides free initial and renewed state ID cards to Ohioans age 17 and older. State Issue 3 simply takes that common-sense protection and locks it into the Constitution, giving it lasting security. 

“Ohioans deserve elections they can trust,” Workman said. “Requiring photo ID to vote is a simple, widely supported safeguard. Enshrining it in our Constitution ensures this protection stays in place for the long term, no matter who is in power, protecting election security for generations to come.” 

The question will now appear on the November ballot for Ohio voters to decide.
