Rep. Munira: Ohio State House Passes HB 188 Despite Overwhelming Citizen Disapproval

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Munira Abdullahi (D-Columbus) today condemned the Ohio State Legislature for passing House Bill (HB) 188, legislation that would create the Ohio Israel Trade and Innovation Partnership.
“The passage of HB 188 represents yet another instance where the state legislature has chosen to ignore the concerns of everyday Ohioans. It is disappointing to see lawmakers disregard the overwhelming disapproval expressed by citizens across the state. This bill was rushed through despite clear calls for accountability, transparency, and alignment with the values of the people we are elected to serve. During this critical time where the world watches Israel commit human rights violations and war crimes time and time again, Ohio has no business promoting a trade partnership with them.
Time and again, we are witnessing a growing disconnect between the voices of our constituents and the decisions being made in the Statehouse. Rather than investing in programs that strengthen Ohio’s communities, create local jobs, and uplift struggling families, the legislature has chosen to prioritize international partnerships that do not reflect the will or the needs of our people.
The passage of HB 188 not only ignores the will of Ohioans but also fails to advance their interests. Our focus and resources should remain dedicated to the people of Ohio, especially at a time when families are feeling the strain of rising costs and cuts to essential public resources like SNAP due to the government shutdown,” said Rep. Munira. “Ohioans deserve a legislature that puts their needs first and does NOT reward nations that fail to uphold the values of human rights and the sanctity of life.”
