Rep. Abdullahi Condemns Attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Munira Abdullahi (D-Columbus) released the following statement following the attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego
“What happened at the Islamic Center of San Diego is horrific and deeply heartbreaking. My prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire Muslim community in San Diego as they process this tragedy.
No one should ever fear for their safety while attending prayer or gathering in their place of worship. Mosques and other Houses of Worship should be places of peace, comfort, and community, not fear.
Moments like this are also a reminder that hateful rhetoric and Islamophobia have real consequences. When people continuously spread fear and hostility toward Muslims, immigrants, and marginalized communities, it creates an environment where violence becomes more likely.
Muslims Americans are part of every community in this country. We are teachers, students, health care workers, small business owners, parents, and neighbors. We deserve to live, worship, and exist safely without being targeted because of our faith.
Now more than ever, we must stand together against hate in all forms and support communities impacted by violence and extremism.
To the Muslim community in San Diego and across the country, we stand with you and are holding you close in our hearts during this painful time,” said Rep. Munira.
