Rep. Brownlee: HB 324 Attacks Reproductive Rights for Ohioans

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Karen Brownlee (D-Symmes Twp) today voted ‘NO’ on House Bill (HB) 324, a piece of legislation which would hinder Ohioans’ access to reproductive medicine such as mifepristone. The bill passed out of both the House Health Committee and the House floor on party lines.
“This bill opposes the will of Ohio voters and unnecessarily targets Ohio’s reproductive autonomy,” said Rep. Brownlee. “Codifying this bill goes against the principles of representative democracy and the will of Ohio voters to maintain access to reproductive healthcare.”
Opponents of HB 324 included doctors, health care professionals, and public health advocates. Notably, opponents highlighted that HB 324 likely conflicts with Article I, Section 22 of the Ohio Constitution and will likely face legal challenges.
HB 324 now heads to the Senate for consideration.
