Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) announced today that the state Controlling Board approved several items of note this week, including the allocation of $9.5 million, through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) and the Child Abuse Prevention Act, to confront child and elder abuse, as well as an additional $7.5 million over the next two years to conduct home assessments for children in foster care.

Reps. Stephanie Howse (D-Cleveland) and Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) testified before the House Insurance Committee Wednesday on House Bill (HB) 416, their legislation that would promote financial security and stability for Ohioans after they retire. The bill would create The Ohio Retirement Savings Program (ORSP), a supplemental pension plan in addition to Social Security benefits.

COLUMBUS– State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today voted against House Bill (HB) 175, which would deregulate ephemeral water features. Environmental organizations argue the legislation would harm Ohio’s water quality and undo the progress made by H2Ohio. HB 175 passed the Ohio House by a vote of 61-33.

COLUMBUS—State Representative Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) released a statement today after video was released which appeared to show U.S. Customs and Border agents on horseback using whips on Haitian migrants coming into the U.S. from Mexico.

State Reps. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) and Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) introduced a concurrent resolution this week to urge Congress to recognize the Kol Israel Foundation Holocaust Memorial as a National Memorial. The memorial is located in Zion Memorial Park in Bedford Heights, OH and is believed to be the first memorial constructed in the United States dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

COLUMBUS—In honor of the upcoming National CROWN Day (July 3), a day of solidarity for the human rights of Black women, men, and children to proudly wear their natural hair without fear of discrimination, State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) announced she will reintroduce the CROWN Act, formerly House Bill (HB) 535 in the 133rd General Assembly. CROWN Day marks the two-year anniversary of the CROWN Act being signed into law in California, the first place it was adopted.
