Representative Troy Requests DeWine Administration to Provide Disaster Assistance

Daniel P. Troy News

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Daniel Troy (D-Willowick) Monday sent a letter to Governor DeWine requesting the administration to provide disaster assistance in the aftermath of the August 25th tornado that touched down in his district. He formally requested whatever the state can provide to help residents pay for the cutting and clearing of lumber from their properties, which, unfortunately, most homeowners insurance won’t cover.

“I was amazed at how many large trees and their large root structures were ripped right out of the ground by the storm. After observing some of the damage that befell many of my constituents and their property in the Mentor Ward 2 area off of Mentor Avenue from Thursday night’s tornado, I asked Governor DeWine for assistance,” said Representative Troy.

According to the National Weather Service’s Cleveland Office, an EF1 tornado touched down in Mentor, Ohio near Dartmoor Road. Large trees and their root structures were ripped right out of the ground as the tornado moved east. Tree and wind related damage has downed power lines, damaged houses, and blocked road access. Nearly 900 hazard wire down calls were reported in Mentor-on-the-Lake.

“I am hopeful that the State of Ohio can enhance the cleanup effort by providing whatever assistance that may be possible in addition to whatever resources the state has already provided,” Representative Troy wrote in his letter to Governor DeWine.
