COLUMBUS– State Representative Daniel Troy (D-Willowick) yesterday announced $192,263.54 in funding that will go to school districts serving students in his district. The money comes from the Ohio Department of Education's Stronger Connections Grant and will be used to provide students with safer and healthier learning environments. The grant program funding comes from Congress’ Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

“It is vitally important to create an atmosphere for our students that improves their ability to learn and prepare for future individual success. These grants will help our local school leaders provide a safer and healthier environment to help accomplish that objective,” said Representative Troy.

Improved academic achievement, emotional well-being of students, and reduction in disciplinary action are associated with safe and supportive learning environments. Grants were awarded based on health and safety data. Rates of poverty, chronic absenteeism, and exclusionary discipline were included in the analyzed data. The Ohio Department of Education’s Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP) e-grant system released the awards to the school districts.

The following school districts were included as recipients:

1.       Willoughby-Eastlake City               $76,882.60
