COLUMBUS — State Reps. Crystal Lett (D-Columbus) and Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) today introduced a bipartisan bill aimed to prevent drink spiking incidents and inform law enforcement of trends and data related to the issue. Drink spiking is the practice of putting an illicit substance in someone’s drink without their knowledge and usually co-occurs with other crimes such as sexual violence and theft.

Crystal Lett (D-Columbus) today voted “NO” on the vote to override a school district property tax levy restriction provision vetoed in House Bill 96 (the state operating budget). Line-item 66 would eliminate several types of levies, limiting the choices voters have in how to support their schools and local governments, and would not provide real property tax relief to Ohioans. Real property tax relief is one of the most pressing needs for everyday Ohioans. House Democrats are ready and willing to work together to get that done.

The 5,565 page proposal includes a $1B cut to Medicaid, continues the House’s removal of publicly funded childcare to families earning up to 160% of the federal poverty level, and eliminates the Child Care Cred Program. At the same time, it establishes a 2.75% flat income tax and diverts $600M in unclaimed funds to the Cleveland Browns—a shift from the House’s original proposal, which funded the Browns through a bond package.
