COLUMBUS – State Rep. Crystal Lett (D-Columbus) today criticized Governor Mike DeWine’s decision to deploy 150 members of the Ohio National Guard to Washington D.C. at the federal government’s request.

“Our National Guard is meant to respond to real emergencies that affect our communities’ needs here in Ohio. Deploying them to D.C. diverts their focus, as well as our tax dollars, from the needs of Ohioans. Our National Guard should never be used for political grandstanding, they should be here at home, ready to serve the people of Ohio. I respectfully urge Governor DeWine to rethink his decision and to critically examine what President Trump is asking of our state,” said Rep. Lett.

Governor DeWine defended his decision to send 150 Ohio National Guard troops to Washington D.C. on Monday, as part of the federal government’s attempt at a police takeover of our nation’s capital. When asked about his personal thoughts on the matter, Gov. DeWine declined to answer, but did say he would have made the same decision had the request come from a Democratic president.
