New bike path will connect Edgewater to Cudell
Cleveland has secured $100,000 from the state to begin planning a shared-use path along West Boulevard connecting Cudell to Edgewater Park.
Why it matters: The project aims to calm traffic while making it safer and easier for people to reach the lakefront without driving.
It's a joint effort between Ward 11 Councilwoman Nikki Hudson and Ward 12 Councilman Tanmay Shaw, with support from State Rep. Tristan Rader (D-Lakewood).
Zoom in: The proposed off-street path would eventually connect Edgewater Park with the West Boulevard-Cudell Rapid station, the Cudell recreation center and new transit-oriented housing along Detroit Avenue.
What they're saying: "We live in a city because we do not want to have to get around everywhere by driving a car," Shah said in a statement.
"This project is a great way to make that more of a reality in Cleveland."
What's next: Community meetings will begin soon to gather public input before designers develop a concept for the three-phase project.
