State Representative Demetriou Applauds Proposed Elimination of E-Check in Northeast Ohio

State Representative Steve Demetriou (R-Bainbridge Twp.) is pleased to announce that the Ohio EPA will be submitting a proposal to the U.S. EPA to eliminate E-Check in the seven Northeast Ohio Counties: Cuyahoga, Geauga, Summit, Lorain, Medina, Lake, and Portage.
"For almost 30 years, Northeast Ohio families have had to take time off work and wait in line every two years to satisfy an outdated federal mandate no one else in Ohio faces,” said Demetriou. “It's an unnecessary burden on working people, and it's time to end it. I urge every resident who's been frustrated by E-Check to make their voice heard during the public comment period."
Since 1996, E-Check has required certain Northeast Ohio counties to undergo emissions testing every two years.
There will be a 30-day public comment period on the proposal to end E-Check, followed by a public meeting in November to allow for additional input from residents and stakeholders. After the public comment period ends, the Ohio EPA will submit its request to the U.S. EPA by the end of 2026.
