COLUMBUS – This week, State Rep. Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) gave sponsor testimony on House Bill 171 in the House Transportation and Public Safety Committee. House Bill 171 will help Ohio’s leading nonprofit organization by creating a license plate in their name, Keep Ohio Beautiful, as they connect with volunteers who create environmental projects that produce measurable economic benefits throughout the state.

Ray is a joint sponsor of the bill along with State Rep. Laura Lanese (R-Grove City).

“I would like to say that when I looked into the mission of Keep Ohio Beautiful, their guiding principles are education, individual responsibility, public/private partnerships, and volunteer action – all areas that are near and dear to my heart,” said Ray.

Keep Ohio Beautiful has forty-two affiliates throughout Ohio that leverage public and private partnerships to carry out this work. The organization reaches over 1,000 communities, generating $12 in local impact from every $1 invested in Keep Ohio Beautiful community improvement projects.

The plates will cost $30 and $20 of that amount goes to the Keep Ohio Beautiful, Inc. organization and $10 goes to the BMV to assist with administrative costs in producing and keeping track of the specialty plates. The administrative fee is standard for all specialty license plates. In its first year, Keep Ohio Beautiful Inc. will receive at least $3,000 in contributions.

House Bill 171 passed out of the House Transportation and Public Safety Committee with no opposition.
