COLUMBUS – The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is now requesting proposals for the Lake Erie Protection Fund grants for projects in the Ohio Lake Erie watershed.

“I encourage all Ohioans to understand the importance of protecting our Great Lake and its watershed and I urge groups or entities with qualifying projects to apply,” said Fowler Arthur.

Applications for the program and due no later than April 22, 2022, and the selections will be made by the Commission on June 7. During this current cycle, grants of up to $50,000 will be considered. All of the projects submitted to the commission should meet at least one of the 2020 Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan Strategic Objectives.

The goal of the Lake Erie Protection Fund is to establish financial backing for research and projects that are aimed at protecting, preserving, and restoring Lake Erie and its watershed.

The Fund is supported through a tax-deductible donation online via PayPal, by check, or through the purchase of a Lake Erie license plate featuring the Marblehead Lighthouse, Toledo Harbor Lighthouse, or Lake Erie life preserver. More than $12 million has been awarded from the Fund to over 400 projects since 1993.

Application materials and guidance for the Lake Erie Protection Fund Grant are available on the Commission website.
