Reps. Baker, Hoops Introduce Legislation Supporting Ohioans with Dementia
COLUMBUS — State Reps. Rachel Baker (D-Cincinnati) and Jim Hoops (R-Napoleon) recently introduced House Bill (HB) 254, bipartisan legislation that would create public awareness to increase both the education and understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease and other types of dementia.
“I’m excited to reintroduce this piece of legislation. It is critical that we raise awareness so that early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease are taken seriously giving Ohioans the best opportunity for early intervention,” said Rep. Baker.
In coordination with the Ohio Department of Health and in partnership with the Ohio Department of Aging, the Commission on Minority Health, and community organizations located throughout the state, HB 254 will develop and distribute awareness information on Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.
“This legislation aims to better equip Ohioans to recognize the early warning signs of dementia and better care for individuals living with dementia,” said Rep. Hoops.
HB 254 has been assigned to the House Health Committee. We hope that HB 254 will get its first hearing, with sponsor testimony soon.
