State Representative Meredith Craig Celebrates Reopening of Shreve Lake
COLUMBUS—State Representative Meredith Craig (R-Smithville) recently joined local leaders and Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) officials to celebrate the reopening of Shreve Lake Wildlife Area in Wayne County.
Closed since 2010 due to dam safety concerns, Shreve Lake has undergone extensive restoration projects and is now officially reopened to the public for fishing, boating, and a wide range of outdoor activities.
“After years of hard work, the dam is fully repaired, the pier and kayak ramp are in place, and the fish are biting,” said Rep. Craig. “This is a great victory for Wayne County and for all Ohioans who enjoy the outdoors.”
Craig also expressed her gratitude to former State Representative Scott Wiggam for securing funding for the project in previous capital budgets and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine for his support. The project received a total of $6.5 million in capital funding.
The ODNR Division of Wildlife has already stocked the lake with 1,500 adult bluegills, with plans to add an additional 6,000 largemouth bass and 30,000 fingerling bluegills later this year.
Public lake access is available via Township Road 316. In addition to lake activities, the surrounding facilities also support hunting, trapping, and hiking.
