COLUMBUS – State Rep. Latyna M. Humphrey (D-Columbus) condemns another recent act of gun violence at a local community pool in Columbus. Three teenagers were involved in a shooting that resulted in one 16-year-old being hospitalized and two others (both 15 years old) taken into custody.

“It is deeply concerning to witness the rise in violence among our young people. There is no reason any child should have access to a firearm. The presence of guns in the hands of our youth represents a growing and dangerous crisis. I am grateful that this incident did not result in greater harm,” said Rep. Humphrey.

The incident transpired near the Barack Community Center and Lincoln Park, where gunshots were reported in the parking lot while a day camp was being held inside the recreation center. Fortunately, no one inside the recreation center was injured.

“Incidents like this are deeply heartbreaking and serve as a sobering reminder of the shared responsibility we all carry to keep our communities safe. As lawmakers, we at the Ohio Statehouse remain steadfast in advancing commonsense measures to reduce gun violence and protect our neighborhoods. Equally important is fostering a community where neighbors can rely on one another and work together to make safety a shared priority. Only through unity, compassion, and collective action can we help prevent tragedies like this from occurring again in Columbus," said Rep. Humphrey.
