Rep. Humphrey Celebrates Passage of Issues 1 and 2, Says Victories Give Ohioans Freedom to Make Own Personal Decisions

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Latyna M. Humphrey (D-Columbus) today released the following statement concerning Issue 1 and Issue 2’s resounding passage by Ohio’s voters:

“Last night, Ohioans showed up and showed out at the polls. The message is now clearer than ever before: women's rights are human rights! I must say, today is a proud day to be an Ohioan, and I am proud of everyone who exercised their civic duty. This is only the beginning,” said Rep. Humphrey.

Issue 1’s victory now enshrines abortion rights into Ohio’s constitution and guarantees every individual a right to make and carry out one’s own reproductive decisions, including but not limited to decisions on, contraception, fertility treatment, continuing one’s own pregnancy, and miscarriage care.

Issue 2’s victory will legalize and regulate the cultivation, manufacturing, testing, and sale of marijuana and marijuana products to adults ages 21 and up and legalize home grow for adults ages 21 and up with a limit of six plants per person and 12 plants per residence.

“Issue 2 is another historic win! According to the statute, there will be a 10% sales tax on products. This sale tax will ultimately be reimbursed to four different state funds! The funds that I am particularly excited about are the Social Equity and Jobs Program, and the portion that will go back into municipalities with dispensaries. This is a major win for the state of Ohio and specifically District 2, as there are a number of medical dispensaries in our district that, once the statute is effective, will profit off of the recreational transition,” said Rep. Humphrey.
