COLUMBUS - State Rep. Latyna M. Humphrey (D-Columbus) today issued a statement regarding back-to-back shootings involving children this morning:

“Two children shot within three hours. That’s not just tragic—it’s a crisis. Our babies deserve better than this, and our families shouldn’t have to live in fear every time their child walks out the door. No parent should be planning funerals when they should be planning for school, for birthdays, for their child’s future.

My heart is with the families suffering through this unimaginable pain, but prayers alone won’t heal this. We must come together as a community and say, loud and clear, that enough is enough. That means neighbors looking out for one another, leaders investing in prevention and resources, the Ohio legislature passing commonsense gun reform, and all of us demanding accountability for the violence stealing our children.

This is not normal, and we cannot allow it to become normal. Every child in our city deserves the chance to grow up safe, loved, and full of possibility—and I won’t stop fighting until that is our reality.”

A Columbus 3-year-old was shot this morning and pronounced dead at 9:51am. Another child has been critically injured following another shooting this morning and is currently in the hospital.

"As I have said time and time again, this is not a political issue, it is a matter of life or death,” concluded Rep. Humphrey.
