State Representative Kevin Ritter (R-Marietta) today announced that the Ohio Department of Development has released guidelines for the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program.

In House Bill 96, Ohio’s State Operating Budget, the General Assembly allocated $200 million for the program. As required by the bill, $1 million is reserved for applicants in each of Ohio’s 88 counties and will be awarded via a merit-based process. The application opens November 12th at 10 a.m.  and will close on December 5th at 5 p.m.

“From my time serving as a county commissioner, I witnessed the impact these funds can make,” said Ritter. “They can help to restore an unproductive brownfield to a site ready for development.”

The Brownfield Remediation Program provides funding to help clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites that are abandoned, idled, or underutilized due to a known or potential release of hazardous substances or petroleum.

The Department of Development will host a webinar at 10 a.m. on Oct. 28 to present the guidelines in detail and allow potential applicants to ask any questions.
