Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today issued a statement in support of Northeast Ohio’s Chinese, Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities amid increased racist incidents as COVID-19 continues its spread across the country. Brent noted that the Cleveland area is home to the state’s largest Chinese, Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities. 

COLUMBUS— State lawmakers returned to the Statehouse today to address the COVID-19 crisis and provide immediate relief to everyday Ohioans. State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) released a statement today following the unanimous passage of an omnibus bill (HB 197) that would prohibit utility shut-offs, waive state testing requirements, freeze EdChoice eligibility, extend voting in the primary election, postpone the state income tax filing deadline among several other measures.

Instead, the office hours will take place via Facebook and Instagram Live. It will allow constituents to ask their questions online in real time as opposed to meeting in-person.

 COLUMBUS— State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced that House Bill (HB) 276, legislation naming a portion of I-271 in Cuyahoga County after the late Orange Village Councilman Ronald H. Barron was signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine.

COLUMBUS—State Reps. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) and Paula Hicks-Hudson (D-Toledo) today introduced legislation, known as the “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair (CROWN) Act,” which would ban discriminatory policies in Ohio schools that penalize students, especially students of color, for wearing natural hairstyles that embrace their cultural identities.

COLUMBUS—State Representative Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) announced today that the Ohio Tax Credit Authority has approved Job Creation Tax Credits for expansion projects with Checkpoint Surgical and Market Track LLC (Numerator). The projects will take place in Highland Hills, which is located in Ohio House District 12.

COLUMBUS—State Representative Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) will be joining First Lady Fran DeWine in Warrensville Heights to provide remarks on the launch of the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library.

This week, state Representative Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) and state Senator Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood) introduced companion legislation to allow residents of facilities such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities to set up a video recording device in their room. The resident’s family could also provide consent if the resident is not capable of doing so. The goal is to mitigate elder abuse in Ohio.
