COLUMBUS- State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) issued a statement today following the Supreme Court’s ruling that the legislative maps for the Ohio House and Senate must be redrawn. The Court ruled that the 2021 state legislative maps violated the anti-gerrymandering provision included in a state constitutional amendment passed in 2015. 

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) released the following statement regarding the sentencing in the Ahmaud Arbery case. Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael and William Bryan were all sentenced to life in prison for their roles in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery in February 2020.

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) issued a statement today on the 9th anniversary of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. On December 14, 2012, a gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and killed 20 children and 6 teachers.  

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced that Senate Bill (SB) 58, known as Esther’s Law, will advance to the governor’s desk for his signature after the Ohio Senate voted to unanimously concur the legislation. Esther’s Law would allow residents of long-term care facilities to electronically monitor their rooms.

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today applauded the Biden-Harris Administration for hosting the first-ever White House Maternal Health Day of Action. The administration announced several new commitments to support maternal and child health, including funding in the Build Back Better Act for maternal health, a report on the impact of postpartum Medicaid coverage, and the establishment of a “birthing-friendly” hospital designation. 

COLUMBUS– State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) issued a statement today on the 7th anniversary of Tamir Rice’s death. Tamir Rice was just 12 years old when he was killed in Cleveland, Ohio in 2014 by a white police officer because he had a toy gun in a park.
