COLUMBUS – State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) today made a statement following the passage of Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 10 in the House General Government Committee. House Republicans tabled every amendment proposed in committee meant to help Ohio’s Voters.

“Republicans want to lock in barriers for Ohioans to vote. Democrats brought forward common-sense amendments to modernize our elections by allowing secure biometric verification, accepting state university and local veteran IDs, and ensuring free state IDs and supporting documents for seniors and low-income Ohioans,” said Rep. Brent. “Instead of strengthening our democracy, the committee majority tabled every single measure because Republicans say they want elections to be ‘easy to vote, hard to cheat,’ but actions say, ‘hard to vote, easy to silence.’”

SJR 10 Democrat Proposed Amendments:

  • Amendment 2840: Free driver's license or state ID card
  • Amendment 2871: Free driver's license or state ID card for 65+ and Indigent
  • Amendment 2841: Allows voters to register on Election Day to vote
  • Amendment 2842: Allows electronic or biometric ID to be added to photo used to vote
