State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today introduced a bill that would rename a stretch of Interstate 271 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio the “Ronald H. Barron Memorial Highway.”

“Councilman Barron had key influence in the development of the Pinecrest shopping area in Orange. It was his brainchild and it has had a positive, lasting impact on our community,” said state Rep. Brent.

Ronald H. Barron served on the Orange Village council for five years after a successful career as a consultant for various businesses and medical organizations. He formerly served as Chairman of the Medication Safety Committee at MetroHealth prior to his election.

“As the mayor of Orange Village, I have worked with quite a few council people over the years. Some have been good, some have been great, but Ron was exceptional,” said Orange Mayor Kathy Mulcahy. “Ron was the ultimate team player who contributed in a huge way.”

Barron died in April 2019. He was married to his wife, Laurie and was the father of Alison Barron and Ashley Fisher, and the grandfather of Gabe Sonderman, Phoebe Sonderman, and Spencer Fisher. He was 72.

The proposal currently awaits an official bill number and committee assignment before its initial hearings in the Ohio House.
