Rep. Brent celebrates Global Hand Washing Day
State Representative Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today celebrates Global Handwashing Day. This day was first celebrated in 2008 by over 70 countries. This year’s theme is “Our Future is at Hand- Let’s Move Forward Together,” which calls on everyone to work together towards universal hand hygiene.
“It’s vital, especially during the current pandemic, that hand washing is a priority to stop the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases,” said Rep. Brent. “Education and accessibility of hand hygiene will help decrease the burden on hospital systems.”
Rep. Brent introduced HB 284 in May, which would establish educational materials and guidelines for hand hygiene for patients in health care facilities. The bill is currently waiting for its first hearing in the House Families, Aging, and Human Services Committee.
