COLUMBUS – State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D - Cleveland) today celebrates the start of Black Maternal Health Week. Black Maternal Health Week, celebrated from April 11-17, is a national initiative that raises awareness around racial disparities in maternal health, especially for Black women.
“Ohio cannot say it is addressing Ohio Maternal Health if it is not addressing Black Maternal Health,” said Rep. Brent. “The lack of proper maternal health services and transparency in Ohio’s healthcare system is costing lives. Ohio ranks 41st worst for infant mortality, and 32nd worst for infant maltreatment. Black Maternal Health Week is not just a reminder—it's a call to action. Our mothers and children deserve a fair chance to live.”
