COLUMBUS – State Rep. Sean Patrick Brennan (D–Parma) today applauded the Ohio Controlling Board’s approval of a $65M increase in appropriation authority to support critical environmental cleanup and drinking water improvements tied to PFAS contamination.

“Clean, safe drinking water is not a luxury - it’s a basic right,” said Rep. Brennan. “As a former teacher, I’ve seen firsthand how environmental health directly affects our children’s ability to learn, grow, and thrive. This investment is about protecting families, holding polluters accountable, and ensuring no community is left behind.”

The funding, allocated through the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s Site Specific Cleanup program (Fund 5410, ALI 715670), will be used to improve drinking water systems impacted by harmful PFAS chemicals and to restore environmental damage near DuPont’s Washington Works facility, in accordance with the terms of a legal settlement.

PFAS - often referred to as “forever chemicals” - have been linked to serious health concerns and have contaminated water supplies in communities across Ohio and the nation. This funding will help modernize water infrastructure, reduce exposure risks, and begin restoring ecosystems harmed by years of industrial pollution.

“This is a step forward, but it’s also a reminder,” added Rep. Brennan. “We must remain vigilant in protecting our natural resources and ensure that corporations are held responsible when their actions harm our communities.”

Rep. Brennan reaffirmed his commitment to policies that prioritize public health, environmental stewardship, and consumer protection.

“Ohio families deserve transparency, accountability, and action - and today’s investment helps move us in that direction,” concluded Rep. Brennan.
