COLUMBUS –State Reps. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) and Michael Sheehy (D-Oregon) today announced that the House Government Oversight Committee unanimously passed House Bill (HB) 213 by a vote of 11-0. HB 213 designates and displays the Honor and Remember Flag, and requires that it be flown at the Statehouse each Memorial Day under proper flag protocol. The bill also includes a permissive provision that allows other government buildings to fly the flag at their own discretion.

“The idea for HB 213 came from members of my community, who have recognized the Honor and Remember Flag for years, including Lorain AMVETS Post #47. Through this legislation, the Honor and Remember Flag is established as Ohio’s symbol of commitment to honoring all members of the United States Armed Forces who lost their lives while serving or as a result of service, as well as their families. This legislation means the world to Ohio’s Gold Star Families, and I am happy to see it inch closer towards the finish line,” said Rep. Miller.

“I am pleased to see HB 213 pass through committee. The Honor and Remember Flag will serve as a reminder to all Ohioans the great sacrifices made by service men and women who have lost their lives while serving or as a result of their service,” said Rep. Sheehy.

Currently, 26 states have enacted similar legislation recognizing the Honor and Remember Flag. HB 213 now awaits a vote on the House floor.
