COLUMBUS – The Ohio House Finance Committee yesterday included an amendment to Senate Bill 111, which provides funding for townships from the American Rescue Plan (ARP).

“I am proud to vote this amended bill out of committee,” said Schmidt. “It is important that townships are recognized as integral units of local government and receive their share of funds from the America Rescue Plan. I look forward to voting for this bill on the House floor Wednesday afternoon.”

In early April, Schmidt sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging that townships be eligible for the funding. The full letter can be found here.

“I am glad our hard work has paid off and townships will soon be able to receive funds,” said Schmidt. “I look forward to continuing our work that ensures townships and other local entities are recognized for their importance to Ohio and local government. Cities, villages and county governments are essential in the work they do for their constituents and the important services they provide – so are township governments.”

Earlier this month, Schmidt issued a statement on guidance issued by the U.S. Department of Treasury that will allow Ohio to decide townships’ eligibility for local government funding under the federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act.

Senate Bill 111 is expected to receive a full House vote later today.
