COLUMBUS – State Representative Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) today issued the following statement on guidance issued by the U.S. Department of Treasury that will allow Ohio to decide townships’ eligibility for local government funding under the federal American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act.

“I applaud the federal government’s decision to allow the State of Ohio to decide townships’ eligibility for this critical funding. Cities, villages and county governments are essential in the work they do for their constituents and the important services they provide – so are township governments. I would also like to thank the state congressional delegation and the Ohio Township Association for their advocacy efforts. I’m looking forward to continuing the fight to ensure our townships are recognized as necessary government fixtures at the local level.”

In early April, Schmidt sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging that townships be eligible for the funding. That letter can be found here.
