(COLUMBUS)—Following nearly two months of negotiations, HB 959 (Stewart), the state’s capital appropriations budget, has been introduced with the successful inclusion of 17 projects in Lake County, announced State Representative Jamie Callender (R-Concord). 

(COLUMBUS)—State Representatives Jamie Callender (R-Concord) and Mike Dovilla (R-Berea) recently introduced legislation to scale back the discretionary rulemaking authority that has been given to state agencies. House Bill 775 would claw back the authority of state agencies to promulgate rules under vague authority, often called ‘catch all’ provisions, while creating a procedure to establish stronger oversight regarding agencies’ ability to expand their authority in the future. 

COLUMBUS – Today, State Representatives Jamie Callender (R-Concord) provided sponsor testimony on House Bill 611 (Callender/Stewart) in the House Judiciary Committee, marking the General Assembly’s first hearing on a bill addressing the adult use industry since the passage of Senate Bill 56 (S. Huffman, 136th General Assembly). House Bill 611 would provide a cultivation license as well as dispensary licenses to Ohio’s stand-alone cannabis processors, often referred to as orphaned processors, aligning them with the majority of the cannabis processors in the state. 

COLUMBUS – The OneOhio Recovery Foundation has launched a new statewide round of opioid settlement grant funding, awarding up to $45.7 million to support prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts across Ohio, announced State Representative Jamie Callender (R-Concord).

(COLUMBUS)—House Bill 538 (Callender, A. Mathews) this week received sponsor testimony in the House General Government Committee, announced Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) Chair Jamie Callender (R-Concord) and JCARR member Adam Mathews (R-Lebanon). House Bill 538 seeks to strengthen the Ohio Athletic Commission (OAC), formerly the Ohio Boxing Commission, by providing the resources necessary to accomplish its expanded role for both athletics and agents.  

COLUMBUS – Amended House Bill 27, which would dedicate the Route 90 bridge over the Grand River in Perry Township in memory of Army Specialist Jacob A. Ashton, received a unanimous concurrence vote from the Ohio House, announced State Representatives Jamie Callender (R-Concord) and Daniel P. Troy (D-Wickliffe). Specialist Ashton was a decorated combat veteran who was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division before his death in August of 2024. 

COLUMBUS – Yesterday, following successful votes in both the House Judiciary and Finance Committees, the Ohio House voted to pass Substitute Senate Bill 56 (S. Huffman), announced State Representative Jamie Callender (R-Concord). Senate Bill 56, initially passed by the Ohio Senate in February, combines efforts to clarify Ohio’s adult use cannabis program and address the issues arising from intoxicating hemp products. The compromise language passed by the House comes after nearly 18 months of negotiations between legislators, industry groups, and advocates. 

COLUMBUS – All state agencies required to submit reports on their regulatory reduction activity per Senate Bill 9 (134th General Assembly, McColley/Roegner,) have submitted their reports to the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR), announced JCARR Co-Chairs State Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) and State Representative Jamie Callender (R-Concord). This is the last of three reports required by Senate Bill 9, which aim to reduce the regulatory burdens placed on Ohioans due to excessive government restrictions.
