State Rep. Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) announces the State Controlling Board approved a total of $406,919 for workforce training projects for Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and Owens Community College on Monday.

“As a member of the House Finance Committee, it’s always been a priority during this General Assembly to strongly invest into our workforce and programs our colleges can offer to work with area-businesses to train and teach students to get them ready for a job outside the classroom,” Ghanbari said. “These programs are great to get our workforce prepared with the skills they’re going to need to succeed in the future.”

The allocations include the following for the two Wood County colleges:

  • Bowling Green State University - $305,907
  • Owens Community College - $101,012

The workforce-based training programs are to support education and skilled training of students and workers to meet the needs of growing, emerging and high-demand industries. The funding is for equipment purchases and facility improvements for the institutions to serve students and regional businesses.

The funding derives from House Bill 687, the capital budget bill that Ghanbari cosponsored and supported and was signed into law earlier this year.

The next State Controlling Board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 21.
