State Representative Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) is pleased to share that the month of September officially marks the beginning of Ohio’s fall hunting season.

“The opening day of hunting season is a time-honored tradition—celebrating not only the legal and responsible pursuit of game but also the stewardship of wildlife, the preservation of our natural heritage, and the continuation of Ohio’s rich outdoor legacy,” said Ghanbari. “All first-time hunting license buyers—excluding those purchasing an apprentice license—must successfully complete a hunter education course before obtaining a license. To everyone heading out this season: stay safe, and good luck.”

The Ohio 2025 hunting season opening dates are as follows:

Monday, September 1, 2025

  • Squirrel (fox, red, and gray)
  • Dove
  • Rail (Virginia and sora)
  • Snipe
  • Gallinule

Saturday, September 6, 2025

  • Early Canada goose (through Sunday, September 14)
  • Early teal (blue-winged and green winged; through Sunday, September 14)

Saturday, September 27, 2025

  • Deer Archery

Additionally, House Bill 64 – legislation championed by members of the Ohio House Majority Caucus – lowers the age to 65 for Ohioans to qualify for senior discounts on hunting, fishing, and other sportsmen licenses. The bill takes effect on September 30th, just in time for deer hunting season.
