Ghanbari Statement on Governor's Statewide Address

May 13, 2021
Haraz N. Ghanbari News

State Rep. Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) has released the following statement regarding the governor’s statewide address on May 12, 2021:

“Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is a personal choice. Let me be clear: I do not support Governor Mike DeWine’s decision to offer taxpayer funded incentives in an effort to get more Ohioans vaccinated before he lifts his health orders.

“Enticing five young Ohioans with full-ride college scholarships for commencing the vaccine, and $1 million for five Ohio residents 18 and older who have started the shots is unethical and unacceptable.

“I spoke with Speaker Cupp following the Governor’s address to express my concerns and call on the Legislature for additional accountability in this latest decision from the Governor. Today’s announcement is the most recent example of the Governor making a decision in a vacuum and not working with the Legislature.

“The Governor should end these orders now; June 2 is an arbitrary date. There is a great editorial by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and cleveland.com editorial board Wednesday titled, ‘Gov. DeWine - tear down this wall.’ I strongly recommend you read it.”
