State Rep. Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) has issued the following statement for the $2.7 million in funding through Ohio’s Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program being awarded to the Elyria Police Department:

“Down at the Statehouse, we have made it a priority to provide the necessary resources our communities and law enforcement need to combat crime. I proudly supported the state operating budget bill providing the funding for this important grant, which will utilize various methods to ensure we reduce violent crime here in Elyria.”

The statement comes after the announcement on Friday that the Elyria Police Department will receive $2,765,513 to hire twelve new officers. Additionally, the funding will be used to hire a recruiting specialist and to purchase new equipment for their digital forensics unit and crime scene unit.
