COLUMBUS – State Representative Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) supported House Bill 687 with a floor vote. The bill awaits action from Governor DeWine.

House Bill 687 is the state's $3.5 billion construction budget, which will help improve our infrastructure, school safety, colleges, and universities as well as numerous community improvement projects.

“This budget invests in Ohio’s future by repairing and upgrading our aging infrastructure and supporting important projects to improve education and the quality of life in our state,” said Manning. “I’m also pleased to announce I was able to help secure important funding for local projects in our community.”

Notably, in Elyria, money was allocated to fund the Elyria Intergenerational Community Center.

“We are thankful to House Representative Gayle Manning for her leadership and support of this transformational project. This groundbreaking project will create a space for intergenerational services and engagement with two of our most valued and vulnerable populations: our seniors and our youth. This investment will help us transform the old Oakwood Elementary school into a safe space and quality facility our residents deserve. Also, thank you to Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman, Senator Nathan Manning, the Ohio General Assembly, and Governor DeWine for their support.”- Mayor Frank Whitfield

The bill also includes $100 million for school safety grants, which will help public and private schools address local building security needs.

In addition to other projects, the highlighted projects from Elyria include:

  • Neighborhood Alliance
    • $500,000 granted to Renovate the former YMCA building to create a new headquarters for the Neighborhood Alliance allowing for the meals on wheels program to grow
  • Elyria Intergenerational Community Center
    • $350,000 granted to convert a former elementary school located within Elyria’s largest community park
  • Elyria Holly Hall
