State Rep. Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) announces a total of $640,500 has been awarded to Lorain Community College for the Choose Ohio First Scholarship program, which was approved by the State Controlling Board on Monday. Manning supported the funding through legislation at the Statehouse.

“Continued investments into higher education is paramount, especially when it comes to STEM programs,” Manning said. “STEM learning for our students is not only an investment for them for their professional career, but it’s also going to empower our community economies and our state’s workforce throughout the state.”

The funding originates from House Bill 110, known as the state operating budget that Manning supported last year.

The Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program seeks to recruit Ohio residents to enroll in STEM certificate programs with criteria selection including the strength of the regional economy and the qualified workforce.

Additionally, Manning also supported another measure approved today at the Controlling Board through House Bill 687, which is providing $38,388 for Washington Village Park in Elyria for improvements and repairs.

The next State Controlling Board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2023.
