COLUMBUS –Speaker Pro Tempore Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) is pleased to announce that Lorain County was recently awarded grant funding from the Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) program to support infrastructure projects designed to increase safety for K-12 students walking and biking to and from school.

Lorain County project details are as follows:

  • $890,379 for the City of Lorain to establish high-visibility crosswalk markings, replace aged and non-ADA compliant pedestrian infrastructure, and install a new multi-use path through Sunny Acres Park.
  • $40,000 to launch Safe Routes to Schools in Sheffield, including a community-wide awareness campaign.

“These projects improve the safety of our students and prioritize their overall wellbeing by encouraging them to walk and bike to and from school,” said Manning.

In total, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Transportation awarded $8.8 million to support projects across the state.
