COLUMBUS– State Representative D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron) and State Representative Gary Click (R-Vickery) announced today the passing of House Bill 314 out of the Ohio House today.
House Bill 314 passed by a vote of 83-0. This legislation intends to exempt the seasonal storage and use of non-Ohio watercraft from Ohio’s use tax. Ohio should be actively trying to attract tourism to our state and House Bill 314 strives to encourage individuals to store and repair their watercraft in Ohio over the offseason months.
The current law is creating a situation resulting in Ohio businesses losing customers because of fear of taxes. With customers not storing and repairing their watercraft in Ohio, the loss of high paying jobs, closure of businesses, and growing unemployment become the consequences. House Bill 314 works to address this issue.
“House Bill 314 is common sense legislation that is good business and good for Ohio,” added Click.
The Ohio boating industry has a monumental economic impact on the state of Ohio and this legislation ensures that Ohio boaters choose Ohio for all of their boater needs.
“This legislation will help bring more business to Ohio’s maritime and boat industries and thereby benefit many of my constituent marina owners, workers, and the communities in my district,” said Swearingen.
